Peran Keluarga sebagai Agen Sosialisasi bagi Pemilih Pemula pada Pemilu 2024 di Kelurahan Mangsang Kota Batam

Abstrak

The family holds an important position as the first and primary agent of political socialization. Families or parents are expected to have an understanding of the political system, political behavior, and the process of introducing particular political parties or candidates to all family members, as they are the individuals closest to one another within the family. This study aims to examine the role of the family as an agent of political socialization for first-time voters in the 2024 General Election in Mangsang Subdistrict, Batam City. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the concept of political socialization agents. The researchers employed purposive sampling, in which participants were selected based on specific considerations and criteria relevant to the research objectives. The informants consisted of five parents and five adolescents or university students from the same families who resided in Mangsang Subdistrict.

The results of this study indicate that the role reflected within the family, particularly that of parents, includes, first, providing the initial source of information and introducing basic knowledge about elections and the importance of voting rights to first-time voters before they obtain information from other sources, such as schools, mass media, and their social environment. Second, parents play a role in instilling democratic values. Third, parents contribute to shaping their children's political preferences regarding the candidates they intend to support in the election.
